Current Role: Customer Assistant
Location: Rathmines, Dublin
Joined Tesco: September 2015
I had been in Ireland for 14 years when I applied to work for Tesco. I wanted to work in a multinational company where there would be more opportunities to get a variety of experience. I’m an Irish citizen, originally from Georgia, so when I started I was worried I’d be the only non-national but in fact, it’s very multi-cultural here and I felt very welcome from the outset. I started as a customer assistant two years ago.
I love the job as you get to meet loads of different people. People are always asking for advice on products and we’ve lots of regular customers who come in for a chat every day. I always feel that even if I can positively impact at least one person a day, I’m happy.

I love moving around the store and working with my team, and when the shop looks nice, it’s very satisfying.
I’m a single mother of two so getting a permanent contract as soon as I started gave me great security. There’s a huge sense of team here so my colleagues have been really supportive. Everyone here is in the same boat in terms of managing personal and work commitments so we always help each other out.
Aside from work, the best part of my day is getting home to my kids. We love getting a pizza and watching a movie. Sometimes pizza just tastes better when you have it with your kids and then fall asleep on the couch. It’s the nicest sleep you can have.

I manage eight people so when I’m doing up the rosters I make sure the workload doesn’t fall to one person and that it’s spread evenly.
