About the role

Tesco Ireland is seeking to appoint a Public Affairs Manager who will be responsible for leading the delivery of best in class public affairs and stakeholder engagement. Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs and Government Relations, the Corporate Communications Manager will work within the Corporate Affairs department, an exciting and dynamic function which is responsible for the Colleague Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility strategies for the business.

You will be responsible for

  • Manage the implementation of the public affairs strategy, delivering Government, political and broader stakeholder engagement on an ongoing basis.
  • Support on the delivery of corporate communications and CSR campaigns from a public affairs perspective, working closely with our PR, CSR, People, Marketing and Customer Service teams and external stakeholders to deliver the business objectives and help to protect our corporate reputation
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders – identifying key stakeholders and managing engagement
  • Responsible for monitoring and horizon-scanning for legislative and policy change at a European, national and local level that impacts the business and wider retail sector – informing senior leaders within the business as to potential opportunities and challenges to continue to build trust with our external stakeholders
  • Developing public affairs content and initiatives including newsletters, research projects, briefing documents, responses to consultations and position papers in relation to key retail and other policy areas
  • Supporting specific business teams in engaging with Government and relevant stakeholders in relation to technical policy asks – e.g. regulatory, people and commercial teams
  • Manage and implement public affairs events
  • Support the PR team with the provision of crisis communications advice in relation to policy and legislative issues as appropriate
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues within and outside own function and develop and actively maintain a positive relationship across the Tesco business in Ireland
  • Adheres to all Tesco policies and guidance
  • Follows our Business Code of Conduct and always act with integrity and due diligence

You will need

  • For this role you should have a minimum of 5+ years’ agency or in-house experience in the same or similar role
  • Experience developing and delivering best in public affairs strategy
  • Network of political contacts and relevant stakeholders
  • Strong interest in political issues
  • Having strong leadership skills including managing internal and external stakeholders
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to balance resources timelines and priorities effectively
  • Managing crisis communications and reputation management
  • Managing multiple campaigns/projects simultaneously
  • Innovating to ensure delivery of best practices
