Compliance and Privacy Manager - Tesco Mobile (WL2, Office)

THE ROLE

The Compliance and Privacy Manager is responsible for providing regulatory advice relating to data protection, promoting a culture of compliance and actively supporting the business in its commercial objectives to ensure long term stability and growth. He/she is a key advisor and forms part of the wider Tesco team of Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Data Protection and Compliance experts.

You will be responsible for

As part of your role you will;

  • Provide clear, concise, timely, commercially-focussed regulatory advice to all business functions in order that Tesco Mobile can deliver its business plan and commercial strategy;
  • Contribute to internal education programmes so that legal and regulatory risk is effectively managed in the business and that a culture of awareness and compliance is fostered throughout the business;
  • Manage internal and external regulatory reporting;
  • Be responsible for compliance monitoring;
  • Be responsible for: (i) the development and maintenance of all relevant policies and procedures, standards, and control and monitoring assurance; (ii) coordinating subject access requests/legal requests; and (iii) investigating and responding to data loss incidents and/or complaints;
  • Manage the business’ compliance risk profile, including: (i) mitigation controls such as Data Privacy Impact Assessment approval; (ii) strategic change programmes such as Privacy by Design; and (iii) maintaining a risk register;
  • Partner business areas to drive privacy and compliance consideration throughout the lifecycle of initiatives and work closely with other Tesco Mobile and Tesco functions;
  • Pro-actively assist the business on data protection and compliance through participation in IT and network projects, customer proposition development, procurement, and in-life management of suppliers and business partners in order that the business can achieve its strategic objectives in a compliant manner;
  • Represent Tesco Mobile externally, together with the Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, before the Data Protection Commission, the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, ComReg, IBEC and other external bodies so that Tesco Mobile is in a position to positively influence public/regulatory policy;
  • Represent Tesco Mobile internally within the wider Tesco Group;
  • Manage and report regulatory matters in accordance with Tesco Ireland and Tesco Group polices so that the business operates in accordance with company and shareholder requirements and maintains and builds shareholder confidence;
  • Ensure that investigations/legal proceedings involving or relating to data protection and/or compliance are proactively and professionally managed in order that the interests of the business, regulatory risk and reputation of the business are protected; and
  • Monitor emerging legislation/trends, analyse the potential impact to the business and advise accordingly.

You will need

  • Legal, economic or commercial/business background/qualification;
  • Experience of working in a commercial and/or public sector/regulatory environment dealing directly with high-level internal and external stakeholders;
  • Good knowledge and experience of advising in relation to compliance/Data Protection law and related guidance;
  • Background in telecommunications desirable;
  • Logical and enthusiastic approach to problem-solving, etc.;
  • Proven track record of influencing effectively; and
  • Ability to work well on own and as part of a team
