About the role

We are currently seeking highly motivated graduates with strong customer focus and who can work well as part of a team for the position of Assistant Buyer in our Commercial Team in Tesco Head Office.

As part of this exciting opportunity you will create profitable customer driven ranges and promotions to deliver sales and margin targets. To buy a defined product group within a buying plan to support the delivery of Serving Ireland Shoppers a Little Better Every day. You will resolve day to day issues with suppliers, distribution and the ordering department.

This opportunity is for graduates who are attracted by the busy pace of retail but who also have a passion for food and delivering great service to customers. From your first day on the office you’ll be part of a great team.

You will be responsible for

  • I hit my sales and margin targets for my defined product area and then beat them
  • My range contributes towards achieving the buying plan
  • I have an innovative and relevant range which gives customers a reason to shop with us across all store formats
  • I am up to date with what is happening in the market and in our competitors
  • I negotiate, with the support of my Manager, product cost and rebates to continually drive down costs for our customers
  • I identify and plan opportunities for promotions
  • I manage and take action quickly on issues with the products in my category
  • I am never afraid to deliver bad news and always act with integrity
  •  I resolve or escalate supplier issues in a timely and efficient manner
  • Adhere to all Tesco policies and guidelines

You will need

  • At least a 2:2 in any subject
  • To work with others and achieve success together
  • To put people and our customers at the heart of what you do
  • To be agile in the way you think, make decisions and handle change
  • To stick to your values and do the right thing, even when it’s tough
  • A positive attitude, and a way of inspiring confidence in others
  • To be connected to the latest thinking, inside and outside of the business

  • A keen interest in becoming a buying manager
  •  IT Skills preferable
  • Experience advantageous but not necessary
