My wife and I came to Ireland from Poland in 2007. I had been studying economics and I also had previously worked in warehouses. Working in the Distribution Centre (DC) was my first job when I arrived in Ireland and now I’m still here.

I started as a general operative which is essentially completing the orders for stores by sourcing the products from the DC. The atmosphere is great in the DC as there’s real camaraderie. There are also loads of different nationalities so there’s huge diversity. I was impressed by how welcoming management and colleagues were to me when I joined and I felt like I could see a future career for myself in Tesco.

I’ve always really enjoyed the fact that in the DC there are loads of different people from different countries. I share my experiences and listen to theirs - learning about other cultures and making great friends.

I feel I’ve achieved a lot here through my hard work, honesty, and enthusiasm but I’ve always been encouraged to do my best by the management team. In my second year I was encouraged to go on a trainee manager programme. I knew it was something I wanted to do as it presented great career opportunities and from day one, I could see how I could progress into management.

I was proud when I was selected for the programme. It included completing a range of training such as, crisis management, people management, leadership training, core values, etc.

After around two years of being on the programme I became a line manager. I have to say that throughout my career in Tesco I received a lot of support and I really appreciated it.

I am managing nine clerical colleagues and there is no better feeling than when you can help them with any query, support them, and receive positive honest feedback.

"I am very proud of how the team supports each other to make the job easier. If someone is struggling the others will step up and give them a hand."

My career is progressing further and currently I am supporting the night shift manager. I am very proud of how the team supports each other to make the job easier. If someone is struggling the others will step up and give them a hand.

Apart from work, I am a bit of a UFC fan and, also, I was recently encouraged by one of my managers to try golf. I’m loving it now and playing quiet often. Other than that I’ll be out in the park with my family and my one year old daughter who brings a lot of love to our home.

The night shift works well for me as, on a daily basis, I can spend time with my daughter and family in the morning and again in the afternoon/evening.
